The Hunt for DNA Connections Goes On!

Through DNA the Hunt for Genealogical Connections Goes On!!

So over the last several weeks I have spent more time at, trying to unravel the tangled roots of my various family lines, than either reading or listening to music. That doesn’t mean that I haven’t been reading or listening at all, just that my focus has been on searching for dead people. One of the most interesting finds was a great-aunt Alice Matilda Ashton.

My great-grandfather John Sherrington Ashton III was born in 1858. The son of John Sherrington Ashton and Mary Parezo. John married Mary E Warwick in 1881. As far as I knew they had five children: Mary Catherine, Edward, William L., Horace, and Blanche. Of those children, my mother only knew one, William, who was to her Uncle Bill, who lived in Pennsylvania. From my genealogical searching I knew of Horace,Edward and Blanche. Edward and Blanche both died as teenagers. Horace was only one when he died. Recently, I discovered through DNA and Ancestry that Mary Catherine married an Emil Gottlieb and lived in Philadelphia. She even had a child named John Sherrington Gottlieb!!

A Walk/Jog to Restart Running and Slow My Raging Biologic Clock…..

So for the last six to eight months, particularly the last three months, I feel that my biological clock has been moving ahead a full speed. While I have been keeping up with my daily yoga and meditation, even including a couple of days a week with light weights. I have done little else right. I have run maybe five to six times this year and now that I haven’t been for my walks with Oliver, I have packed on several unwanted pounds!!

My diet hasn’t been too bad, but there have been a few too many late night cake snacks! So this week I need to start doing a little better!! First on the list of things to do is to start running again. I did just that this morning. Well, maybe not “just” that there was some walking mixed in, but at least I was out there doing it!!

Distant Horseman – Timothy Wenzel

Distant Horseman – Timothy Wenzel – Life, Living  and the Universe

So if you are looking for a nice, quiet relaxing album, I have one for you – Distant Horseman the latest release from New Age Artist Timothy Wenzel. The album was released back in February and it has been in my music rotation since then. I also think that it has also been at the top of the Zone Music Reporter Charts for all those months. The album features the musical artistry of Wenzel coupled with the beautiful violin of Josie Quick.

One of the ways that I always put granddaughter Zoe to sleep when she was a baby was to rock her on my shoulder. When I did this I would turn on the Soundscapes channel on Comcast. Soundscapes plays New Age music. On one of the days when I was rocking her a track from Timothy Wenzel came on and I really liked it. Zoe did to, but she went to sleep and I went to Spotify to find the album. Since this would have been early 2015, the track was most likely from Timothy’s album Summon the Wind. I wrote about the album in March of 2015. You can read about the album and Timothy here.

What’s Been Happening? A Quick Update!

Let's Learn German book being used in my studies!

A Little Reading, Some Yoga and an Attempt to learn German!

Well, it has been about ten days since I posted anything new. I think that is probably the longest I have gone in the last three years without posting anything! The fact that I haven’t posted doesn’t mean nothing has been happening though, because I have been doing stuff! I finished two books The Secret Crown Book 6 in Chris Kuzneski‘s Payne and Jones series and the latest from Harlan Coben Fool Me Once. Both were really good books. They are books 23 and 24 for 2016. I will try to write more about them in the next few days. I also started reading Jack 1939 from Francine Mathews so far it is pretty good.

A Good Run the First Since ????

A New Year a Return to Running!
Maybe January??? But I think I will be able to keep going forward with a weekend run…..

While I was on my walk on Tuesday, I was moving pretty well and I felt like I could run without much trouble, so rather that go for another walk, I felt like I could run today. My goal was to run two miles, with a secondary goal of running for 30 minutes if I felt pretty good during the run.

So  I loaded up some blues from Toronzo Cannon, his latest album The Chicago Way and took off. I hit the first half-mile mark running at a 10:40 /mile pace and feeling pretty good. I finished the first mile in 10:49 and I felt okay so a 2 mile run was going to be doable. I felt good through the second mile (10:53) and knew that I was going to make the 30 minute goal. I struggled slightly over the final part of the run covering the last .8 miles at an 11:03 /mile pace. But even with that slowing down my overall pace for the run was under 11 minutes per mile! My heart rate at the end of the race was 162, but after a couple of minutes it was down to 112. I am really encouraged by today’s run and maybe it won’t take me as long as I thought to get back to running sub-10 minute miles. Right! What I do need to remember is that I do have to take it slow and try not to overdo it!
